Originally formed around the turn of the century npower was created from the gas and electricity supply businesses of MEB, MEB Powerline, National Power Energy, Yorkshire Electricity, Northern Electric and Gas, Calortex and Independent Energy. RWE bought the UK part of the business in 2002, and more latterly created a business called npower renewables which was created from National Wind Power and Innogy Hydro.
npower's primary green fuel generation source is the North Hoyle Offshore Wind Farm, which produces much of the power behind their Juice tariff (their clean electricity offering). This farm was opened in 2003 and can meet the needs of up to 40,000 homes. Juice has been accredited by Green Energy Supply Certification Scheme as a green tariff which truely results in more green energy being produced.
npower also have a significant business in home cover for gas boiler and central heating maintenance and repairs, and install new boilers – they have been a major player in the boiler scrappage scheme, offering to add up to £400 to the Government contribution.

The moneymaxim energy comparison service is used by thousands of customers a year, and over 10,000 have provided feedback over their switching experience. The ratings supplied here were extracted as at Feb 2010. As you use the service you can both get up to date statisics, and review in depth any company you are interested in.
The Which Customer Satisfaction Score?
The customer satisfaction score is based on the responses consumers gave for both overall satisfaction and likelihood to recommend the supplier to a friend. Both questions are given equal weighting, and only those giving a valid response to both questions are included in the analysis. The responses are then analysed and scaled to give a rating between 0 – 100%. The survey was undertaken in May and June 2009. Full details of the survey can be found on the Which website
