Compare Dental Insurance

Dental Insurance makes sense for anyone but those who have trouble free teeth, and who can afford a large bill should they have an accident which causes dental damage. Rising dental bills have been an issue for many years, and with the NHS bearing a reducing share of treatment costs dental insurance is a sensible way of ensuring that dental costs are affordable.

Dental Insurers in the UK are manyfold - the leading insurer who is promoted by dentists tends to be Denplan (who are owned by AXA-PPP), although due to the way they assess you premium costs can vary. With Denplan the dentist assesses the condition of your teeth and places you in one of five bands - with rising dental insurance costs involved the more treatment your teeth are likely to need. This means that often its is cheaper for most patients to opt for a 'non assessed' dental insurance policy.

One of the largest dental insurance companies is Simplyhealth - who were previously known as HSA or Healthsure (rebranded as Simplyhealth following their amalgamation - they offer extremely affordable policies, a months free cover up front and cover gives you money back towards your dental check ups, scale and polish and treatment such as fillings, crowns and bridges. Policy rates start from £7.50 p.m.

Tesco offer dental insurance for those attending an NHS dentist - their plans start around £10 p.m., with their core cover reimbursing NHS dental treatment costs, covering emergency dental treatment and providing worldwide dental cover. Their Premium cover policies also provide larger reimbursement for NHS and Private NHS treatment such as fillings, crowns etc and maintenance costs (say for check ups and x-rays). Private treatment can either replace or be added to NHS treatment.

If you have existing private medical insurance companies such as BUPA and AXA-PPP offer private dental treatment insurance as top ups to their private medical insurance policies.

Boots also offer policies - ranging from £9 (a policy designed to cover the cost of most NHS treatments carried out in England and Wales and contribute towards the cost of NHS treatments in Scotland and Northern Ireland. More expensive plans help with the cost of private treatments as well as provide worldwide accidental cover plus offering assistance towards the cost of treating oral cancer.
