National Car Hire - are their Super Cover collision damage waiver excess policies a good deal?

We explain the cover offered by National Car Hire's policy, including the Super Cover Excess Waiver and Theft Waiver policies.

Within Europe National will normally include Collision Damage Waiver, Theft Protection and Liability cover for European renters - this might differ for visitors from further afield.

Their excesses differ from country to country. For a compact car the UK standard excess is normally up to £900, whilst in France it is usually around €1650. In some countries it is not specified - for instance in Italy National say 'The maximum excess will vary depending on the vehicle you are renting, please ask at time of rental for further information on which excess applies'.

The company offer a Risk Reduction Cover product which reduces the excess to £250, a Risk Reduction Cover Plus product which reduces the excess to nil. Their Value Cover product is needed in addition you would like to protect damage to the wheels, tyres and windscreen.

Excess insurance is available through the MoneyMaxim car hire insurance service from around £2 per day which also covers the excluded areas above.
