Have you been affected by the NatWest, RBS, Ulster Bank problems?

Although most of the extreme cases of hardship have hopefully been resolved, consumers are urged to check that they haven’t been affected by the NatWest / RBS / Ulster Bank system failures which started on the 19th June.

Do check bank statements, the absence of a modest sum could easily be missed so check back to previous months.

It’s not only receipts, direct debits and standing orders may also have failed. Hopefully the issues will have been resolved by now and missing payments taken at a later date. If they haven’t then you should take steps to contact the companies affected and resolve the issue.

Any late or non payment may have been recorded with the credit reference agencies, the banks should have corrected this at the same time as making payments but since your credit rating will affect the interest rates you pay it is worth ensuring that it is correct. See our guide to credit rating and credit scoring for more information.

If you do uncover problems, the Financial Ombudsman Service have just published a factsheet detailing how to get problems sorted, how to put in a claim and what constitutes fair compensation.
