With the end of term and start of the holiday season, airports and airlines have had a busy weekend with Thompson and First Choice alone expecting to handle around 46,000 customers.
Airlines do appear to be busy with Monarch reporting a 24% rise in passenger numbers with 626,185 travelling in June 2012 compared with 506,321 in June 2011.
BA/Iberia reported a 5.8% increase in passenger numbers carried in Europe in the same period.
Thompson note an increase in the number of customers opting for 7 night holidays, particularly among those booking last minute where 67% of bookings were for one week.
The Balearic Islands, Turkey, Cape Verde and Mexico have maintained their popularity with Greece, Portugal, Fuerteventura and Florida performing strongly too.
They also report sales for Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco have recovered well now that the political turmoil appears to have settled down.
If you are thinking of booking a last minute holiday, it’s normally cheaper to hire from the UK using our comparison site rather than with the holiday company or at the resort. If you’ve already booked a hire car, do check the terms and conditions of the car hire excess before you go. If you feel you’d like more cover, you can also take advantage of our competitive car hire excess policies.
