With the school holidays nearly over, car hire companies are offering discounts to tempt travellers not restricted by school term times.
Hertz have announced a Global Sale for the month of September with discounts of up to 33% on bookings made this month for pick up before the end of the year. Somewhat below the headline rate, they admit that actual discounts will vary according to location. Indeed when we checked we found a mere 9.5% discount applied on a Kia Picanto from Gatwick airport and 6.5% on a Seat Ibiza from Alicante. To obtain the discount, you need to enter the Customer Discount Code (CDC) of 763130 on the "Edit Itinerary” page of their website.
Budget have the "Big Budget Sale” on until September 27th for bookings up to 12 months in advance. Budget quote up to 25% off, but do show maximum discounts by country. The full 25% is only available in Spain. France and Greece get up to 20% and the UK up to 15%. Again, running a couple of quotes revealed these discount rates as maxima. Following this link & using the Budget Discount Code of L211400, we achieved 10.5% on small cars from Gatwick though did find the full 15% available on a Peugeot 3008. Alicante and Malaga were more disappointing with discounts of under 12% being less than half of the headline rate.
While it's certainly good news that discounts are being offered and it is worth trying comparisons with and without the discount codes, it would be nice if the actual discounts achievable were closer to the advertised rates. Even with the discounts applied lower prices were available through the MoneyMaxim car hire hub.
