Wind Power Generation Record Broken

At 5am this morning, the UK generated 4,889MW from wind power beating the previous record of 3,800MW set in May.

According to Utility Week, power generated from wind turbines broke records this morning at 5am, hitting a peak of 4,889MW beating the previous high of 3,800MW set on 13th May.

Hopefully this record is due to the growth in the number of active windfarms and consistently strong westerly winds recorded across the country this morning, rather than wind farming energy companies deliberately overloading the system in order to claim compensation for having to reduce their output.

With SSE's 9% price rise; EDF pulling their popular Blue + Price Promise April 2014 tariff and Scottish Power replacing their Online Fixed Price Energy January 2014 with a similarly named but more expensive March 2014 product, prices are firmly on the increase.

Energy companies are concentrating their marketing efforts on energy efficiency incentives in increasingly desperate attempts to meet their Carbon Emissions Reduction Targets.

British Gas are currently offering Free Insulation to those on lower incomes and vulnerable groups and you can even claim £50 for referring someone who does qualify to them – full terms & conditions on the British Gas site.

While it seems unlikely that any energy companies are going to introduce a new cheaper tariff, this still leaves many customers reaching the end of their existing deal. Somehow it's not as much fun finding the best tariff is still more expensive than your existing deal but it's still preferable to being dumped on standard tariffs! Consider policies with no exit or termination fees to leave yourself able to take advantage if reduced rates appear in March 2013.
