Hertz Super Cover is an optional added insurance which waives liability for local excesses that would otherwise be charged in the case of damage to the vehicle or its theft. It normally (there are some variations depending on location) includes accessory cover, except in the case of Sat Navs and broken / lost keys. Supercover does not cover damage to the tyres, wheels, glass (including chipped windscreens, lights and mirrors), the roof or underbody of the car.
You can check the price of Hertz Supercover by running a dummy car hire hire quotation on the Hertz website and indicate you want your car hire to buy online. Having selected your vehicle watch out for a link 'View optional items not included in the price'. This will show you the price online. As a guide the SuperCover rate for a seven day hire of a Ford Focus hired in Rome in June 2012 was £159.42 for the week. Supercover can only be purchased by those over 25. Guide prices for similar insurance from the moneymaxim car hire insurance service would be less than £14 for a weeks hire, or under £40 annually.
One good feature of the Hertz website is that if you search under locations you can find out the potential excesses payable at each location for each car – look out for the Rental Qualification and Requirements link. This is something we wish other car hire companies would copy, as it does bring clarity to the situation. The car above, for instance had a €1,100 for damage and €1,800 for theft claims.
