Within Europe National will normally include Collision Damage Waiver, Theft Protection and Liability cover for European renters – this might differ for visitors from further afield.
Their excesses differ from country to country, the UK standard excess being up to £800, whilst in France it can be up to €4000. The cost of their in house excess insurance (called Risk Reduction Cover) also differs. In the UK as at April 2012 the price of Risk Reduction was £11 per day (£77 per week), although this does include the fee for an additional driver.
The Risk Reduction Cover does not cover damage to wheels, tyres, glass (including chipped windscreens, lights and mirrors), roof and underbody of the car.
Excess insurance is available through the moneymaxim car hire insurance service from around £2 per day which also covers the excluded areas above.
