Whilst travel during the coronavirus pandemic has been severely curtailed there are still permissible reasons for travel - and one of those is business trips.
However even if travel is permitted many travel insurance policies are not covering Covid-19 risks so it is important for those taking an essential trip to find a business travel insurance policy that will insure you should you be unfortunate enough to contract coronavirus whilst away.
There are, however, exceptions to the rule and below we offer some suggestions of where to head to cover yourself against the financial burden catching Covid on a business trip would result in, although we should stress, particularly at this time, it is important to read the details of each policy carefully to ensure that your particular situation is covered.
One important point to make is that many insurers will not provide cover for travel to countries where an 'all but essential travel' ban is in place - so even if you are visiting on an essential business trip (which may well be permissible) those policies will still not offer cover at all.
Additionally it's worthwhile pointing out that having travel insurance which covers you if you are travelling against FCDO advice does not in itself mean that you can travel - you still need to adhere to the coronavirus rules that apply to the country you live in.
Normally we advise you to make sure you have travel insurance in place from the time you book your trip so that you will have cancellation cover in place from then on. In most cases this is weeks or months before your departure date.
In most cases our advice doesn't change (so you are covered if you have to cancel your business trip for an insurable reason) however there are some policies that do not offer any cancellation cover. If buying one of those we suggest purchasing the policy 14 days before you depart. Then, if your trip does not proceed, you can cancel the policy within the 14 day cooling off period. Be aware you cannot cancel after the start date of the policy.
Yes - Battleface - featured in the policies suggested on this page do offer such an add on for business travellers.
It's a low cost option, and provides extra cover for those on a business trip. It does have a limit of £1000 for such claims, but would, for example, help pay for a replacement employee to take the place of an insured party who fell ill on a business trip (Covid is specifically excluded for trip cancellation though, and therefore such illness would prohibit a claim under this option).
It also covers theft or loss of business equipment or money.
To buy it go the the Add On section after completing your personal details.
