British Gas Energyshare launched – We review its features

British Gas Energyshare reviewed - what does this River Cottage backed electricity plan deliver for you and the planet - and what will it cost you!

British Gas has today announced launch of a new tariff – Energyshare which replaces it Future Energy and Future Energy Plus price plans. The changes take place immediately.

Any customers signing up to the plan benefit from the following:

  • British renewable electricity, at the same price as British Gas' Standard tariff.
  • Your choice of one of four free products designed to help you save more energy and money in your home.
  • £10 a year donated by British Gas into the energyshare fund to support support renewable energy community projects.
  • The chance to vote on how that fund is spent (you could even set up a community project yourself!)

The energyshare tariff is accredited by the Green Energy Supply Certification Scheme ensuring the stated claims are real and measurable. It is also supported by River Cottage who have the aim of changing the way people source, use and generate their energy.

The tariff does come at a premium as its price is set at the same level as the companies ‘Standard Tariff' which tends to cost between 15% and 20% more than the most competitive in the market.

It is easy to see what your household will pay if you switch to British Gas Energyshare using our independent and impartial energy comparison service, which will also allow you to assess the plan against other renewable fuel options.
