Managing Director Mark Price berated Waitrose' rivals saying "If you have a competition that says: Who can sell the cheapest stuff? Inevitably at a point in time you will get something like this.”
Two hours later in a precautionary measure, Waitrose withdrew six product lines of frozen beefburgers, all sourced from Dalepak. Waitrose insist that they are 100% confident in the integrity of their supply chain and the beef used in their products all comes from their own British suppliers.
However as the British Retail Consortium suspended their accreditation of the Dalepak site used for production of their frozen burger ranges, they decided to remove the burgers from sale as a precautionary measure. The withdrawn burgers have been tested and no other species was found to be present.
Large retailers will doubtless have supply contracts that will minimise their losses but it's harder for the smaller business. While issues like horsegate are thankfully rare, fast food restaurants and takeaways face many risks.
When you are looking to insure your Fast Food Restaurant, Takeaway or Cafe you can expect to get cover for your kitchen, stock, public and product liability (quite important that one right now!) and employers liability within standard products. We can help you find the right Takeaway Insurance fast.
