Though UK driving licences are accepted by most car hire companies the AA recommend an international driving licence when hiring a car in Mozambique.
Most car hire in Mozambique comes with mileage limits, but these can vary considerably - we found from 100 km/day to 400 km/day so it's easy to find one that suits you.
Charges for additional drivers are often lower than in other countries - typically around US $3 / day but do check.
Insurance is very variable within Mozambique. Some operators include collision damage waiver (CDW) and theft waivers in the rate and some don't. Some don't, even though the website gives you strong hints that it is, so always check the rental terms.
When provided, CDW policies often have very high excesses - £1,250 - £1,500 on a modest compact car is typical and can easily double for a larger 4x4 or people carrier.
Third party insurance may not be provided (if they give you CDW cover, they'll normally include third party cover too but it's not guaranteed) and when it is, claim limits may be low by European standards. While there's probably some justification in that typical claims are cheaper than in Europe, it's worth checking that you are happy with the level of cover provided and top up with Supplementary Liability Insurance if not. Many insurers limit their SLI cover to the USA and Canada so make sure you select one where SLI cover is worldwide.
