If you have a car hire booked, look at getting your car hire excess insurance as soon as possible as we are seeing insurers increase prices in the light of higher claim costs. It is highly likely that there are more increases to come over the summer.
Using the Moneymaxim car hire excess insurance comparison service means that you can benefit from the lower prices from insurers who have yet to review their prices. This is particularly relevant if you have an annual policy about to expire. Some annual policyholders are facing increases of 20% or more - so we advise you to check prices across the market before just accepting the price from your existing insurer.
When you hire a car which comes with Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection there is usually an excess which you are liable for. Car hire excess insurance can reimburse you should you have to pay out any of this excess to the car hire company.
Car hire excess insurance is not just about the excess! The CDW that comes with your hire will often have exclusions (parts of the car that you will still be responsible for) such as the wheels, tyres, glass, mirrors, roof and underbody. Excess policies can also reimburse you should you damage these excluded areas as well as providing cover for other items such as towing and lost keys.
Policies are available which offer CDW should you not have any cover. CDW waives you of having to pay the full cost of repairs to the car should it be damaged. We do always suggest checking what cover you have with your hire and, if you are not certain, a quick call to your rental company can normally clear any confusion up.
If you have primary liability insurance (often this is the State Minimum Liability Insurance) then you can get policies including Supplementary Liability Insurance which will top your third party cover up to $1 million.
If you are hiring this year but not booked yet, an annual policy can cover as many hires as you like within the policy year provided the policy is purchased before you pick up any rental car and the hire is not longer than the specified maximum trip length on your chosen policy.
We can help with any car hire through our in-house car hire broker Clarify Car Hire. If you run a quote for excess insurance through MoneyMaxim you can also pick up a voucher worth up to 50% off your booking deposit when you use Clarify Car Hire.
