What do you mean by annual policy? Can I use it throughout the year?

We explain exactly how annual car hire insurance policies work. Find out why an annual policy may be a good idea for you. We explain how long an annual policy actually does last, and what you need to look out for when choosing annual insurance cover.

Annual car hire insurance policies allow an unlimited number of trips to be made over the course of the annual cover period, although there are single trip limits. The standard single trip limit is 31 days, although some policies have higher limits of 60 to 65 days. All these limits are detailed on the results page of the MoneyMaxim car hire insurance service.

One could take out a car rental policy on the 1st January and hire a car for separate trips of say 30 days for every month of the year without the need to buy a new policy.

If a longer stay away is required, single trip policies can be purchased for periods up to 180 days.

Policies normally cover a named 'lead driver' and this is the most popular type of policy purchased. However there are options for families who have different drivers going on holiday at different times, where 'dual lead driver' policies enable a number of drivers to be insured under the same policy. Simply run a standard quotation and then use the filters at the top of the results page to shortlist these policies.
