Does it matter what time of day I collect or return my hire car?

The time of day you pick up or return your hire car may not seem important but it can be. We explain why.

Most car hire companies operate on a 24 hour clock - so if you take a car out at 2 p.m. you only pay one day's hire as long as you return it before 2 p.m. the next day.

Some car hire insurance companies operate on a 24 hour clock (as above) but others on a calendar day basis (where the hiring above would count as two days rather than one).
