New research shows the high cost of fuel has forced motorists to cut down on their car usage. If you need to reduce your motoring expenses compare car insurance costs.
Two thirds of motorists admit they have been forced to change their driving habits because of record fuel prices, Moneysupermarket revealed.
A further 62 percent said they had reduced the amount of time they spent driving to cut costs while five percent claim to have stopped driving completely as it was an expense they could not afford.
"Now really is the time to take action across the board with your finances to make the most of your money so you don't have to resort to changing your lifestyle dramatically,” said Kevin Mountford, Moneysupermarket's head of banking.
"It is easy to make the mistake of sitting on average products which do not give a good rate of return or cost far more than they need to.”
Only a fifth are sticking to their usual driving habits, just about keeping afloat as a result, and 16 percent admit they have not changed them at all.
Compare Car Insurance Costs
Although you may have to dish out more on fuel, you can reduce your overall motoring costs by shopping around for a better car insurance deal.
If you compare car insurance costs you may find there is a policy which suits your situation better than your current one.
It is worth regularly investigating alternatives as you may have taken an advanced training course which could see you benefit from discounts, or you may have racked up some points on your licence which could see your premiums increase.
Some insurers offer package deals for families, so this is something you could consider if you have a son or daughter who has just passed their test.
