Electric cars for hire in London

The Olympic countdown has now truly begun and thousands of tourists will descend upon the city of London for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Travellers looking to get around on alternative transport to the densely overcrowded underground system might want to consider car hire. Not only could this be a more efficient way of getting around, but travellers heading to the capital will also get the chance to try out electric cars first hand.

The Hertz Corporation has announced plans to offer a stylish and electric vehicle for rent. Working in partnership with Vauxhall Motors, the electric Ampera model will be available to rent in London from next month.

Michel Taride, President of Hertz International, said: "We are delighted to be introducing the Ampera to our growing fleet of electric vehicles.

At Hertz, we are excited about new technology and innovations in smart, eco-friendly travel.”

The car features the latest innovative technology such as a hands-free audio kit which can connect members back to a care centre representative should they have any queries or questions about the vehicle.

The car hire firm is also promoting other electric vehicles in London as part of a campaign to support the city in becoming an electric capital of Europe. In addition to this, there are also plans to launch operation of the electric vehicle car share scheme in Oxford.

"Electric vehicles are fun and exciting to drive, and the growing EV eco-system in Oxford should help encourage their use,” Mr Taride continued.

Cars in London can be hard to find and sometimes beyond the budget of many travellers, however, if you're looking for affordable car hire you could use Money Maxim's car hire comparison tool, which allows you to search for car hire insurance as well.
