Only 21% of motor insurance policies offer Uninsured Loss Recover (ULR) cover as a standard feature.

The analysis of 223 comprehensive motor insurance policies by independent financial research company Defaqto found significant variations with 28% not providing ULR at all and 51% as an optional extra. "It's not unusual to be offered a number of optional extras when you buy your car insurance," explained Defaqto Insight Analyst for General Insurance Mike Powell. "What is important is that consumers check that they have their required feature within their policy as we all have different needs." Another survey they recently conducted found, of 5, motorists, those between the ages of 55-65 were most concerned about policy excesses being imposed following an accident. The Motor Insurers' Bureau found there are still 1.5 million uninsured drivers on Britain's roads highlighting the importance to check your motor insurance policy for ULR cover. The bureau also found the Metropolitan area ranked highest in the regional figures with 1 in 1 vehicles estimated to be uninsured making Londoners twice as likely to crash with an uninsured driver.
