Are the items in your garden covered by your home insurance?

What do you need to consider when choosing your policy?

Summer is here and many of us have visited the garden centre and purchased new garden furniture or a new bird bath. Perhaps you have treated the kids to a new trampoline or yourself to a new lawnmower! The statistics when it comes to garden thefts can be quite frightening yet in the summer months we all leave many items outside without realising how appealing they can be to thieves.

Items can be sold off on auction sites or through car boot sales so even an innocent trowel is not safe! There are several precautions you can take to lessen the risk of being the target of thieves. Northumbria police have some great advice you can follow. However you also need to consider your home insurance. What would happen if thieves broke in and stole amongst other things your favourite ornament? Or the beautiful shrub you have lovingly tended for the last few years?

It can be difficult to understand what is meant by various terms in your home insurance. Our article on Garden Cover will help you work out what you should be looking for and give you some tips on how to protect your belongings. It also includes a comparison table of just a few policies that are available.
