Europcar, the car hire firm, have ordered 100 Toyota Yaris Hybrids to add to their UK fleet. The company say they are responding to consumer demand for more eco-friendly alternatives.
The Yaris Hybrids have a CO2 emission rating of 79g/km conveniently just under the 80g/km level that the London Greener Vehicle Discount (GVD) is expected to be reduced to later this year. The cars will be one of the few that remain congestion charge free when the current rate of 100g/km is reduced.
Ken McCall, Europcar UK Group's Managing Director said: ‘The Toyota Yaris Hybrid is an exciting addition to our growing fleet of hybrid vehicles, it is the first model to be GDV registered, in preparation for the changes to the Congestion Charge.'
Europcar say the car will be available across their entire UK network.
Selecting an emission charge exempt vehicle is a good way of keeping your car hire costs down and not just the London congestion zone. The AA say more than 200 cities in 10 countries within Europe already have or are planning to introduce Low Emission Zones with combinations of registration and charging for higher polluting vehicles.
