On the first day of his trial at Southwark Crown Court, Lib Dem MP and ex energy secretary Chris Huhne changed his plea of not guilty to the charge of perverting the course of justice and entered a new plea of guilty.
The case has it's origins in a speeding offence 10 years ago for which his then wife Vicky Pryce took the speeding points on her licence. The allegation was initially made by his wife when his marriage ended in 2011.
Vicky Pryce pleads not guilty on the basis of marital coercion.
Huhne was granted unconditional bail by the judge Mr Justice Sweeney who giving an indication of sentencing said: "You should have no illusion whatsoever as to the sort of sentence that you are likely to receive.”
As he left court Huhne said: "I pleaded guilty today I am unable to say more while there is an outstanding trial. But having taken responsibility for something which happened 10 years ago the only proper course of action is now for me to resign my Eastleigh seat in parliament which I will now do very shortly.”
So for the sake of avoiding some speeding points and possible ban in 2003, Chris Huhne now faces jail. When released, as a convicted driver, he will face difficulty getting insurance cover. Always willing to help, we can help find specialist Car Insurance for Convicted Drivers.
