Spark Energy - a small energy company who struggled to maintain service standards, which ultimately led to their demiseVisit Spark Energy
Spark Energy background
Spark Energy was started in 2007 with a focus on providing energy for the lettings industry meeting the particular needs of lettings agents, landlords and tenants. In October 2012, they launched their highly competitive Spark Advance tariff to a wider audience. Though it attracted a lot of new customers, it's fair to say that the company struggled to stay on top of servicing the new accounts. This led to them pulling the tariff in May 2013 and an ongoing investigation into them by Ofgem.
Ongoing customer service issues hounded the business and this led to further censure from the authorities, and ultimately their closure in 2018.
Customers were transferred to Ovo Energy in November 2018, with the company announcing:
'We’re delighted that the GB energy regulator Ofgem has selected OVO Energy to take over our customers’ energy supply. If you’re a Spark customer, it’s good news - you don’t need to do anything. Spark will continue to service all aspects of your account under the Spark brand. It’s business as usual.'
